My name is Steven Lewen

In 1975 I had the above operation, which has left me with multiple debilitating side effects. I was told by surgeons that I was 'unique', imagining the symptoms and should seek psychiatric help and therefore, for many years, thought that I was the only person to have adversely reacted this way.

Having found a Swedish-based website, I have discovered that this operation is still being performed (using various techniques) and that there are people all over the world suffering as a result of this operation.
This has made me realise that I am not, and never was 'unique' and that surgeons were merely trying to cover their tracks. The Swedish site also tells of at least 30 Swedish patients who are pursuing litigation (details on a link from this site) and has numerous emails detailing horrific experiences from dissatisfied patients all over the world.

The purpose of this site is to:

• Act as a warning to all those contemplating surgery as there is no effective reversal of the operation

• Give advice/helpful information to those considering surgery

• Offer support to those who have already been left with debilitating side effects

• Have this unnecessary surgical procedure banned - or at least regulated - as it largely creates more problems than it solves - and in many cases, can permanently devastate a person's life.
